What is PSD2?

It is a regulation with the main objective of establishing a regulatory framework on the European payment service market, fundamentally in the digital environment, with the following main objectives:

  • To facilitate and improve security in use of payment systems on the Internet.
  • To enhance standards of user protection against fraud and potential abuse.
  • To promote innovation in payment services using mobile phones and the Internet.

PSD2 has made electronic payment security one its main concerns. The measures and procedures gravitate around the "Strong Customer Authentication" (SCA) concept. Find out more about it in the rest of the FAQs.
