SEPA CORE AND SEPA B2B, TWO METHODS

Core Basic Debit

A euro collection system between individual or company bank accounts, valid throughout the SEPA area.

Requirements:

  • Transactions must be in euro.
  • Issuer and debtor may be legal persons and/or individuals.
  • All institutions that operate with debits shall accept this method.
  • There is a requirement for a prior direct debit instruction signed by the debtor for making payments. The existing direct debit instruction or mandate will continue to be equally valid for issuing basic direct debits (CORE).
  • The issuer must safeguard the mandate together with any modifications or cancellation, for the period that may be required to justify the existence of authorisation for a collection.
  • One of the following new file formats is required: Notebook 19-14 / SDD CORE XML (ISO 20022 standard).
  • The IBAN code becomes the identifier for the debtor's account, and the BIC represents the debtor's financial institution.
  • The type of debit that is presented must be specified (FRST-first, RCUR-recurring, OOFF-one-off or FNAL-final).
  • Debits must be presented to Unicaja before 12:00pm on the business day* before the due date.
  • Return periods:
  • Up to 8 weeks at the request of the customer debtor for any reason.
  • Up to 13 months for unauthorised payments (by instruction of the customer).
  • There is the option of rejecting the requested refund after the first 8 weeks by providing a copy of the current mandate.
  • Additional information about the payment: up to 140 characters.

B2B Business Debit

A euro collection system between company and/or self-employed individuals (non-consumers) bank accounts, valid throughout the SEPA area. Unlike the CORE basic debit, it has a reduced return period.

Requirements:

  • Transactions must be in euro.
  • Issuer and debtor must be non-consumers (companies or self-employed individuals).
  • Prior to issuance, a direct debit instruction/mandate between issuer and debtor must be formalised. This instruction must specify the acceptance of B2B operations and the debtor's waiver of the right of return.
  • It is compulsory to safeguard mandates and all their modifications or cancellations as long as they may be required to justify the existence of authorisation for a collection.
  • Authorisation prior to the charge: before debiting the account, institutions shall obtain authorisation from the debtor.
  • One of the following new file formats is required: Notebook 19-44 / SDD B2B XML (ISO 20022 standard).
  • The IBAN code becomes the standardised code for the debtor's account, and the BIC represents the debtor's financial institution.
  • Debits shall be presented to Unicaja Banco before 12:00pm on the business day* before the due date.
  • Once the debit has been taken out of the customer's account (with the prior express authorisation of the latter), it is not possible to return it.
  • Additional information about the payment: up to 140 characters.
